Principal's Message

Welcome to MECHS! My name is Eric Blackman, and I am honored to lead the outstanding staff and students at MECHS for the 2026-2027 school year. This will be my first year as Principal at MECHS, however, I have been part of the Madison County Schools for over twenty-five years where I have served as a teacher, coach, bus driver, assistant principal at MMS and most recently served as principal at Madison Middle School. I am proud of both my personal growth as an educator and the schools' growth for which I have served.

I attended George Washington University for my Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, The Citadel for my Master's degree in Teaching, and Lincoln Memorial University for my Educational Specialist degree in Administration. I have served in in the NC National Guard for eight years including a tour of duty overseas in Operation Iraqi Freedom. I have lived in Madison County since 1998 and have two children who attended and graduated from the Madison County School System.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank all of our stakeholders for giving me the opportunity to serve you and your child at MECHS. It is my belief that we are here not just as an academic institution but also as a developer of the whole child. To include not just academic education, but also social, physical, and emotional education. I also believe that as good as MECHS is, we as a community can accomplish far more with regard to students then just us as a school. Great things happen when we work together. With that in mind, if I can be of any assistance, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I want to continue the excellence at MECHS while supporting our staff, students, and families. Together we make a difference!

Go Patriots!
